Field adaptation in the horizontal cells. Rushtonian transformation.

چکیده

In the presence of a steady ambient illuminance there occur two changes in the horizontal-cell incremental response; 1) The incremental sensitivity decreases which is WeberFechner like phenomena. 2) The response becomes faster . The response to a modulation around a mean is linear: This is a piecewise linearization. With the classical spot-annular experiment, a steady annulus of light increases the incremental sensitivity, makes the response faster, and linearizes the response. I propose to refer to the set of changes as the Rushtonian transformation which is an extension of Rushton's idea of field adaptation1).

Iranian Adaptation and Narrative Transformation with Special Attention to Amir Naderi’s Adaptation of Sadeq Chubak’s Tangsir

This paper, while focused primarily on the narrative transformation of Sadeq Chubak’s Tangsir from novel to film adaptation, offers a general survey of adaptation history in Iran and also investigates the nature of Iranian adaptation from both foreign and domestic sources. Drawing on Gerard Genette’s theories of Narratology, especially his notion of hypertextuality, transpragma...

Adaptation to disparity but not to perceived depth

The purpose of the present study was to investigate whether adaptation can occur to disparity per se. The adapting stimuli were large random-dot patterns of which the two half-images were transformed such that the depth effects induced by the vertical transformations were nulled by horizontal transformations. Thus, the adapting stimuli were perceptually the same, whereas the disparity fields di...

Receptive field properties of rod-driven horizontal cells in the skate retina

The large receptive fields of retinal horizontal cells result primarily from extensive intercellular coupling via gap (electrical) junctions; thus, the extent of the receptive field provides an index of the degree to which the cells are electrically coupled. For rod-driven horizontal cells in the dark-adapted skate retina, a space constant of 1.18 +/- 0.15 mm (SD) was obtained from measurements...

The lateral spread of light adaptation in cat horizontal cell responses.

To investigate the sites of light adaptation processes in the mammalian distal retina, we studied the lateral spread of adaptation signals in cone-driven cat horizontal (H-) cell responses. The size of the adaptation pool is compared to the receptive field for H-cell responses. H-cell activity was recorded intracellularly in the optically intact, in vivo eye. It is demonstrated that light adapt...

Horizontal cells function normally in ethambutol-treated goldfish

Ethambutol, a tuberculostatic drug, induces red-green colour vision defects in man and goldfish. The ethambutol-induced red-green colour vision defect in goldfish was argued to originate in the retina because after ethambutol application: (1) inhibitive interactions in red-green (double) opponent ganglion cells are lost [Van Dijk & Spekreijse, 1982 (Investigative Ophthalmology and Visual Scienc...
